Traders association requests PM for meeting ahead of Amazon CEO visit

Noida: After holding a massive rally in Delhi against e-commerce companies like Amazon and Flipkart, Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting him to meet the traders association ahead of the visit of Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos in India.

As per the CAIT representatives, the association wanted to meet the PM to discuss the factual position of the local traders in the wake of e-commerce businesses which have nearly destroyed small traders and captured the market.

Talking to CitySpidey, Sushil Kumar Jain, President of Sector 18 market association, Noida and CAIT’s Delhi Convener said, “We expect that the Amazon CEO will meet the PM during his visit to India. We want to raise the issues which small traders are facing across India because of these big e-commerce corporations.”

He added, “If we meet the PM, we will point out the unfair business activities done by e-commerce companies like Amazon and Flipkart. They violate the FDI policy of the government in clandestine manner.”

In the letter, CAIT National President BC Bhartia and Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal reminded that two months back, the association had submitted a complaint with various evidences to Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal against malpractices of Amazon and Flipkart. They requested for immediate cognizance of the matter.

Goyal had taken a tough step and directed the concerned officials to probe the complaint and categorically assured several times that no one will be allowed to violate the FDI policy.

Clearly mentioning that the association is not against the e-commerce businesses and supports 'Digital India' campaign, it was stressed in the letter that compliance to policies laid by FDI, GST and Income Tax provides an equal platform to all.

They also started that the companies are consistently lowering price which is causing great tax revenue loss to the government.
