New Delhi: With the elections for the Delhi Assembly declared, demand for metro connectivity to Mayur Vihar phase-3 has become shriller. Residents of the area are determined to make their demand heard.
At a meeting held here at Dussehra park, more than a dozen organisations vowed push for the demand. They include all the resident welfare associations (RWA) of MIG pocket 1 to 6, social and cultural organisations of the area, Shree Jagannath Odia Associations, Tamil Welfare, Muthappa Pooja Samiti etc.
Convener of United Forum of Residents, Mayur Vihar phase-3 Vinod Kumar Nair informed that the Sunday’s meeting was organised to take stock of the status of the application they had sent to various ministries and civic authorities in support of their demand.
“We won’t budge from our demand,” he asserted.
He said representatives of the societies agreed that it’s time they pursued the matter forcefully rather than relying on the government’s assurance of an action plan on our demands.
“We should know all that the government has done about the demand. We are fighting for our civic rights since last ten years. Successive governments have taken us for granted, but no longer so,” he asserted.
The residents want extension of metro’s Magenta line from Noida to Pink line at Anand Vihar via Mayur Vihar phase-3. They say it would ease the transport woes of the area.
With metro connectivity the people of the area would have easy access to South Delhi. The Joint forum had earlier approached Union Minister of Tourism Mahesh Sharma, Gautam Budh Nagar Pankaj Singh and many other authorities in this regard.
