Sixth Delhi Assembly's record: 44 legislations, 34 adjournments

New Delhi: The Delhi Assembly Secretariat came up with quite interesting information with regard to performance and attendance of the MLAs in the sixth Delhi State Assembly. The info was sought by Association of Democratic reforms (ADR ) and Delhi Election Watch (DEW) through an RTI query.

On average, the Assembly sat for 20 days per year from 2015 to 2020 in which as many as 44 Bills were tabled and passed. It was adjourned for 34 times during its five-year term.

An analysis of the RTI reply shows that in 2015, the Assembly was adjourned five times for one hour and 36 minutes. In 2016, it was adjourned three times, wasting one hour and 12 minutes.

The highest number of adjournments was 13 recorded in 2018 in which four hours and 35 minutes of the House were wasted. A report has been generated from the information up to February 2019.

In 2019, the House was adjourned for only four times. It has been noticed that the 6th Assembly has passed all the 44 Bills tabled in the House without any objection. The highest number of 23 Bills were passed in 2015. The figure for 2016 was six while for 2017 and 2018 it was seven and six, respectively.

In 2019, only two Bills saw the light of the day.

Asked about the highest number of questions, Leader of the Opposition Vijender Gupta (BJP MLA from Rohini)put the figure at 1,023 while the attendance of sitting MLAs was 80 to 100%
