Gurugram: New regulation to facilitate electricity connection to EWS soon

Gurugram: Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission (HERC) is contemplating to bring a new regulation shortly under which people belonging to Economy Weaker Section (EWS) category will not face any trouble in getting household electricity connections.

This was stated by the Chairman of HERC, Deepender Singh Dhesi, who held a review meeting on the status of electricity and smart metering to the people belonging to EWS category with officers of the concerned departments at the Public Works Rest House, Gurugram on Friday.

He also took feedback from the officials of Department of Town and Country Planning, Haryana Housing Board and Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam about providing electricity to the houses of EWS category people.

In the meeting, the points related to providing electricity connection to EWS plot holders and people living in EWS group housing society were also discussed.

There is a provision to reserve 10 per cent of the accommodation for EWS category in every colony and society.

Dhesi gave necessary instructions to provide uninterrupted power supply in these areas. He also asked the officers that EWS category people were being provided with single point or individual electricity connections.

He instructed the concerned officials to ensure that EWS category people do not face any trouble in getting electricity connections. Describing electricity as pivot of development, he said, “In today's time, electricity is one of our basic facilities, so it is necessary that people do not get deprived of this facility and they get the benefits of it on time.”

He also reviewed the progress of smart meters being installed in Gurugram.

According to the DHBVN officials, so far 41,384 smart meters have been installed in the district and there is a plan to install 100 per cent smart meters in DLF area in the next two months.

“With the installation of these meters, electricity consumers will be updated from time to time with information related to their power consumption, which will increase transparency.” the official said.

Dhesi informed that a mobile app is also being prepared by the corporation, so that the consumers will be able to do comparative analysis of power consumption in a hi-tech manner.

“Through these smart meters, electricity consumers will also be able to avail prepaid facility. Not only this, smart meter will also prove to be very effective in reducing line loss, which will also used for online monitoring of electricity corporation,” added Dhesi.
