New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has convened a special meeting with Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Delhi, Special Commissioner of Police along with district electoral officers and other senior officials to take stock of preparations at polling booths for Delhi Assembly polls.

A press note issued by the ECI on January 31 read, “A meeting with Chief Secretary, Commissioner of Police, Home Secretary, Finance Secretary, Special Commissioners of Police and CEO Delhi was also held, in which, various important issues were discussed at length to ensure elections in a smooth manner at all polling stations on February 8, 2020 in Delhi.”

In the meeting, the Chief Election Commissioner, Sunil Arora, directed the officials to ensure adequate law and order arrangements at the identified vulnerable polling booths.

Addressing the meeting, Election Commissioner Ashok Lavasa pointed that officers need to be extra alert to ensure that no oversight in administrative control or efficiency is committed and groundwork is done regularly to handle any evolving situation.

Meanwhile, the Chief Secretary of Delhi apprised the Commission that all arrangements have been made to ensure free, fair and peaceful elections in Delhi. Commissioner of Police reassured that Delhi Police will keep a strict vigil on law and order situation and take prompt and strict action against violators of law.

The Chief Election Officer (CEO) of Delhi, Ranbir Singh, in the meeting assured the ECI that all preparation is on track to deliver peaceful polls. He said, “Entire electoral machinery is fully geared with arrangements tied up with local bodies.”
