New Delhi: A day before the electorates in the national capital are set to vote to elect new government, Delhi’s residents' representative body – United Residents Joint Action (URJA) made an another attempt to seek attention of people over the prominent issue of air pollution in the city.
In its continued campaign against toxic air quality in Delhi, URJA highlighted a survey report by Center for Study of Developing Societies (CSDS) of November 2019. The report based on responses from 2,000 residents of the city claimed that around 45 per cent people consider air pollution to be the biggest problem prevalent in the National Capital.
It further said, in the last seven years, the air quality index of Delhi has been 224 on average, which is 350 per cent more than the criteria set by the World Health Organization (WHO).
“Air pollution does not appear to figure prominently in the agenda of political parties in Delhi Assembly elections, but citizen of the national capital must keep reminding the concerned authorities that air pollution is a key concern for them,” said Atul Goyal, president of URJA.
In its effort to make the air pollution of the city a core issue in the election, URJA has been continuously raising the issue at different public platforms with its – 'Green Declaration'.
