Panic set in at Gold Croft Society in Sector 11, Dwarka, where a lady was stabbed to death by her domestic help inside her house on Friday afternoon. The deceased, Uma Sharma, was in her late fifties. She was stabbed more than 20 times.
According to sources, she had allegedly slapped and scolded her teenage domestic help over the quality of food he had cooked. Police said that after stabbing Sharma to death, the accused ransacked the house and raised the alarm about the murder with the intention of making it appear as a murder-cum-robbery case.
The police said that the incident was reported around 3.45 pm, when her domestic help called up the neighbours and told them about the murder and "robbery". The neighbours informed the police. The cops, upon reaching the spot, saw the main door of the flat wide open and the body lying in a pool of blood. The body was sent for post-mortem.
Cops got suspicious, as there were no signs of resistance, which is usually the case in robberies. The servant, who was moving around freely in the house, caught their attention.
The police found several contradictions in his statements during questioning, and the police zeroed in on him. Joint Commissioner of Police, South West, Dependra Pathak, said, “During sustained questioning, he accepted that he had murdered the lady in a fit of rage and had then ransacked the house after picking up a few valuables. When his belongings were checked, some jewellery and other valuables were found. He was then arrested."
Sharma lived in the apartment with her husband Pramod Sharma, a retired engineer. Both her son and her daughter are settled in the US. The domestic help had joined the family about two months ago. He hailed from Bihar and had been introduced to the Sharmas by a relative. The family had not got the domestic help's police veriufication done.
