Gurugram: Maha Shivratri was celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety across the millennium city on Friday.

It is one of the prominent Hindu festivals which falls in the month of Phagun as per the Hindu calender. The residents in Gurugram was also not behind in worshipping Lord Shiva and seeking his blessing on the occasion. 

The ardent devotees thronged the various temples in their locality to worship Lord Shiva and celebrated the occasion with great devotion.

To celebrate the occasion, the residents of Mapsko Casa Bella, a residential society in Sector 82, organised a special Rudrabhishek Puja for its residents at society's Shiv Temple. Around 51 devotees offered Rudrabhishek to the Shivlinga where they bathe the Shivling with different offering which has a specific significance and chant mantras.

Others also offered their prayers with water, curd, milk, honey, ghee and other things to Lord Shiva and circumambulated around the Shivlinga. They also offered fruits like ber (jujube), bel leaves and flowers to the Shivlinga. Many observed a fast on the day and offered prayers to the lord to seek his blessings.

Kamla Prasad, one of the devotees said, “We have organised special Rudrabhishek for the residents in our society's temple and after the worship, fruit prasad were distributed among the devotees.”

A special 'aarti' was conducted in evening to celebrate the festival.
