Coronavirus update: No order to close schools in GB Nagar, confirms DM

Noida: District Magistrate BN Singh on Tuesday evening confirmed that the district administration has not ordered closure of schools in Noida and Greater Noida.

Singh along with Chief Medical Officer Dr Anurag Bhargava called a press conference amidst the news of corona virus outbreak in Delhi-NCR and requested people not to believe any rumours. He added that no person has been tested positive in the district so far.

They were referring to the suspected cases involving children and their family members who came in contact with the man who was tested positive in the National Capital on Monday.

Elaborating further, Singh said the two stages of tests are conducted for COVID-19. The first one has already been carried out and there are no symptoms of the disease.

For the second stage, samples have been sent to Pune. The children and their family members who came in contact with the man confirmed with the virus infection have been quarantined for two weeks as a precautionary measure.

Singh also confirmed that the closure of the Shri Ram Millenium School in Sector 135 from March 4 to 6 and Shiv Nadar School in Sector 168 from March 4 to 9 are the internal decisions of the school’s management and there is no involvement of district administration in that.

He added that the board examination which are to be held in these schools will proceed as scheduled at a different centre in St Joseph School in Greater Noida.

Talking to the media persons, the DM said that the district has two isolation facilities centres – GIMS (Government Institute of Medical Sciences, Greater Noida) with the 10-bed facility and Super Speciality Paediatric Hospital (Sector 30, Noida) with nine beds.

“We are fully equipped to deal with this and there should be any panic about it. The district health department has been working tirelessly since morning. Don’t worry,” Singh said.

The CMO said the medical tests are free at the government hospitals. “This disease, coronavirus, spreads from person-to-person. People should observe precautions and avoid handshakes,” Bhargava said.

BN Singh requested media fraternity to refrain from spreading any false information regarding the virus which may create panic in public. But people have started restricting children from going out of the houses.

Shweta, a resident of Noida told CitySpidey that though her child studies in a school in Greater Noida, she might not send him to school on Wednesday. “The situation is very tense, we can’t take a chance, in fact, everyone in our building might not send their children to school tomorrow,” she said,
