New Delhi: 21-year-old Nazim Ahmed, the juice seller who averted robbery attempted at an ATM machine in Nehru Nagar on Tuesday, was rewarded by the Delhi Police. The Deputy Police Commissioner of South District has commended his effort and rewarded him with a commendation card and Rs 2,000 cash on Wednesday.

The police lauded his effort in preventing the robbery attempt. “In recognition of good and hard work done with great zeal, high sense of responsibility in connection with his exemplary role as an untoward incident of ATM robbery at Nehru Nagar could not be succeeded due to his alertness and brave act,” the commendation card read. 

On Tuesday morning, unidentified men attempted to rob the ATM machine at market area of Nehru Nagar. Ahmed confronted the robbers and got into a scuffle with them. The robbers even shot a bullet at Ahmed but he dodged it and continued engaging with the robbers till people from the residential area reached the spot. 

Meanwhile, the robbers fled the scene immediately. However, while preventing the robbery, Ahmed also received injuries on his chest. 

“Besides the lauding by the police, the RWA of Nehru Nagar has also planned to honour Ahmed with a bravery award and a cash prize,” told Sachin Shah, president of the RWA. 

Shah said that it is just a way to appreciate the exemplary show of bravery by Ahmed that prevented the ATM robbery. “The man did not back down even after facing the bullet. He saved lakhs of rupees that could have been stashed in the ATM machine,” he added.

Shah informed that on coming Sunday, the RWA will honour Ahmed with the award and a cash reward of Rs 3,100.
