Delhi Police advisory for vigil against mischievous rumours

New Delhi: The Delhi Police has come up with an advisory to the general public in the wake of “unsubstantiated reports of the tense situation” in the National Capital. It calls for a vigil against fake news allegedly being mischievously circulated on social media and messaging apps.

In a release issued to the media, the Delhi Police said that such reports were deliberately being circulated to spread rumours and thereby create panic in the public. They advised the people not to pay heed to them.

The police assured that it was closely monitoring the social media accounts spreading fake news/rumours and would take strict legal action against those found involved in spreading rumours.

Hence, the public is advised to verify if they come across any such information and, if need be, report it to the police on the designated telephone numbers of the Delhi Police mentioned (see box below).

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Police of Dwarka, on his part, launched a helpline number 011-28042979 for the district to inform or clarify about the rumours.
