New Delhi: The city of Delhi is the worst affected by the coronavirus as the tally crossed 80,000 mark on Saturday. So far, 2,558 people have died due to coronavirus infection in the city. As per Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the death count has increased because some people did not get beds.
In the last 24 hours, there have been 66 deaths in the city. However, over 2,200 people have recovered in the said period. The total number of recoveries now stand at 49,301. The recovery rate has increased and it is now 61 per cent.
As per the health department bulletin, the number of active cases is 28,329 in the national capital. Testing has been ramped up in the city. Over 19,000 people have been tested in the last 24 hours. Till date, 4,78,336 tests have been conducted in the city.
The government has launched a serological survey to contain the pandemic. It is expected to help the officials in checking the spread of the virus.
However, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has feared that Delhi will have 5.5 lakh coronavirus cases by July 31. He reasoned that his estimation is based on the current doubling rate of infection which is prevalent in the city. He said that cases in the national capital are doubling every 12-13 days.
As far as the country’s tally is concerned, in the biggest single day spike, more than 19,900 coronavirus cases were recorded in the country in the last 24 hours between Saturday and Sunday morning.
As per the health ministry dashboard, there were 19,906 cases reported pan India in the said period. During this period, 410 infected persons succumbed to the virus.
Now, the total infected cases have come closer to the 5.3 lakh mark in the country. This was the fifth consecutive day when the cases have increased by more than 15,000. As far as states’ tally is concerned, Maharashtra is at first position ahead of Delhi. Tamil Nadu is at third position.
