Residents again protest against cutting of trees at Dwarka

Dwarka: The residents again protested against cutting of trees for construction of a flyover by National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) at the road number 226, Dwarka on Monday morning.

As informed by the residents, they were protesting against the plans to cut hundreds of trees.

They assembled at the spot and protested holding placards and banners. They pasted banners on the trees as well.

People were visibly unhappy with the cutting of trees. They expressed their concern and said that they were not taken into confidence before taking the decision to cut the trees.

President of Federation of CGHS, Dwarka, Sudha Sinha said, “Our Federation is against cutting of trees. A flyover would be constructed along the road number 226. There are more than 200 trees. We can’t tolerate their cutting. Our protest would continue.”

On the occasion, organisations like 'Dwarka Bachao Abhiyan' and Sukh Dukh Ke Sathi and the members of managing committee of the societies, environment lovers, all collectively expressed their concern to protect the trees.

Diwan Singh, environment activist from Dwarka Bachao Abhiyan said, “We gathered against construction of a flyover in middle of Sector 22, 23. It will become a traffic and pollution nightmare and lead to cutting of hundreds of trees.”

“No permission has been taken from the Forest department for cutting of trees. The local residents were not consulted before taking the decision to cut trees and construct a flyover,” he added.
