Noida: To tackle the issue of increasing dog bite incidents, the residents of Noida on Friday proposed development of more animal shelters.

In a letter written to Ritu Maheshwari, Chief Executive Officer of Noida Authority, the residents commended the good work of authority in bringing the birth of stray animals under control by sterilizing them.

But it also stated that the dogs become more aggressive post sterilization than non-sterilized ones. They believed that it is a major reason behind the increasing number of dog bite incidents.

AN Dhawan, a resident of Sector 52, and chief patron of Jan Sakti Seva Samiti, a Noida-based social organisation said that considering the above issue, he has put forth an idea of making more animal shelters so that the problem of dog bite incidents can be mitigated.

He said, “If stray animals are kept at animal shelters post sterilization and being fed there, it would solve the problem of dog bite incidents. Animals would also get more care at the shelters.”

He informed that in Haryana, the government's agencies have already framed bye-laws for keeping all dogs in designated shelters. He said, “It would be an effective solution to the problem if Noida adopts it.”
