Devdutt Padikkal’s magical century powers RCB to top spot in points table

New Delhi: It was a complete dominance of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) against the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) match played on Thursday. With that, the RCB acquired the top position in the points table. They have won all the four games played in the tournament so far.

The RCB have never been able to lift the IPL trophy. But the way they are going in this edition, they may very well fancy their chances. RBC’s speedsters Mohammed Siraj and Harshal Patel wreaked havoc against the RR batsmen right in the beginning of the match. They both took three wickets each.

RR’s lower order batsmen Shivam Dube, Rahul Tewatia and Riyan Parag played good innings to take the team to a score of 177/9. RR had set the target of 178 for RCB. What followed was something which is seldom seen in a T20 game. RCB’s openers Devdutt Padikkal and Virat Kohli played extraordinarily well to chase the target without losing any wickets.

Padikkal scored an unbeaten century. He scored 101 runs off just 52 deliveries. It was a classy innings, the runs just flowed from the willow of the youngster. Many experts hailed the innings by saying that it was a flawless innings. South African legend Shaun Pollock heaped a lot of praise on the southpaw. He said that Padikkal was always elegant but he played power shots as well in the innings against RR and it is a great sign.

The impact of Padikkal innings was such that the modern day legend Virat Kohli played the second fiddle in the partnership. Skipper Kohli also played a good hand and scored 72 runs off 47 balls. He looked quite spirited and played with a lot of heart against the RR.
