The sports continued over the years and we fans celebrated it unabated. However, on a fateful day, one of the all-time greats of Formula One Ayrton Senna lost his life while being racing on the track. It happened on this day in 1994.

Formula One is hailed as one of the most thrilling sports. The adrenaline rush is at another level while watching the race. Fans all across the globe have a special place in their hearts for these races. However, the loss of life on the racing track shook the entire world way back in 1994. It is still one of the most heartbreaking incidents from the world of sports.

27 years ago on this day, Brazilian F1 racer crashed during the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix in Imola. He died from the multiple injuries that he sustained on his body. The fans who has followed the Formula One will remember how tragic that incident was. Ayrton Senna was three times world champion and in the eyes of many, he was even the greatest racer to have graced the Formula One stage. He is often compared to other greats like Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton.

Senna had lost his life when he ran wide at Tamburello on the flat-out corner on the circuit in Imola, Italy. Till this date, Senna features in the debates of the best driver ever. Senna had started his career  with Toleman in 1984. He stood second in the Monaco Grand Prix. He went on to win six times afterwards. He also drove for Renault. Then he moved to McLaren, where he was successful in winning three World Championships.

Senna had won the championships in 1988, 1990 and 1991. Throughout the years across 161 Grand Prix, Senna was able to win 41 races and had secured the podium 80 times. Moreover, he held 65 career pole positions. He still features in the top three on the all-time pole position tally. His greatness can be gauged from the fact that he was on pole for 40 per cent of his races.
