NDMC launches mass plantation drive under Van Mahotsav

New Delhi: The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) on Saturday launched a mass plantation drive under Van Mahotsav. It is intended to improve the green cover in the national capital. The NDMC has set a target for plantation of total 3,850 trees and 5 lakh shrubs during entire monsoon season.

People from all walks of life like general public, morning walkers of gardens and parks, visitors of New Delhi area, children, residential welfares associations (RWAs), market traders associations (MTA) and others will participate in the mass plantation drive.

During the Van Mahotsava, NDMC will plant total of 1,475 trees and 99,831 shrubs plants in the various locations. On Saturday, the NDMC planted around 513 trees, 40,000 shrubs in the area of North and South Horticulture Zone.

The plantation drive was carried out at Safdarjung Road, Nehru Park, Palika Niketan, Sector-10 - RK Puram, 3rd Avenue Road, Lodhi Garden, Shankar Road, Talkatora Garden, Parliament Street & Annexe, Firozshah Road, Harish Chander Mathur Lane, Central Park - Connaught Place, Jai Singh Road, Mandir Marg, Padara Road, Mansingh Road, Teen Murti Marg, Max Mueller Marg, Lodhi Colony, Laxmi Bai Nagar, Maharishi Raman Marg and Charak Palika Hospital - Moti Bagh.

As per the officials, the saplings of different species like Ashoka, Peepal, Jamun, Arjun, Har singar, Bottle Brush, Amaltas, Silver Oak, Champa, Putranjiva, Bougainvillea, Lagestromia, Thorollii, Plumeria  alba (Temple Tree) were planted under the drive.

Under the Van Mahotsav, the second and third phases of plantation drive will be conducted on July 3 and 10 respectively.
