Dwarka: The Gurdwara Management Committee in association with Sukh Dukh Ke Sathi (SDKS), a social organisation, organised a plantation drive at cremation ground, Sector 24 in Dwarka on Sunday. On the occasion, people from different societies, social groups, RWAs etc were present. They planted saplings and took an oath to nurture and preserve the trees.
More than 100 saplings of different species like Peepal, Ber, Neem, Ashok, Pendula, Kaner, Amaltas, Gulmohar, Jatropha were planted by the community people present there.
Kamaljeet Sehrawat, councillor of the area and former mayor of South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) was the chief guest on the occasion. She planted saplings with the people present there and interacted with them on how to keep the area green and clean. People also made her aware about the civic issues prevalent in the area, on which, she assured to do the needful.
Captain SS Mann, Vice President of SDKS said, “Earlier, the cremation ground lacked greenery. We had conducted a plantation drive around four years back at the cremation ground. It helped a bit. But the condition was not as we expected. With this planation drive, the cremation ground is expected to turn green and clean in days to come.”
