New Delhi: A win or loss didn't matter and true Olympic spirit was on display in a 800 meters semi-final race in Tokyo Olympics on Sunday. American Isaiah Jewett got tangled up with Botswana’s Nijel Amos while they were 54 seconds behind the winner.

It was a crucial game but the disappointment didn't overpower them, rather they helped each other to stand on their feet and finish the race together by putting their arms around each other. It was quite a sight and one of the highlights of Tokyo Olympics on Sunday.

Amos let Jewett finish ahead of him. They crossed the line at 2:38.12 and 2:38.49 respectively.

In the aftermath, Jewett emulated anime superheroes and said that he learnt lessons from Japanese animation cartoons and it helped him become a first-time Olympian.

“Regardless of how mad you are, you have to be a hero at the end of the day. Because that’s what heroes do, they show their humanity through who they are and show they’re good people,” Jewett was quoted as saying by news agency AP.

Amos was devastated when he tumbled but he decided to put it behind. “You are all united by emotion. We felt all the emotion when we went down. When we stood up and just tried ... to get home. I thought I was in a good position to take this heat, and I can’t put words on it.”

Later on, Amos was given a chance to participate in the final after appeal. Jewett remained out. The Olympics ruling indicated that Jewett was responsible for the crash.
