Cases of chikungunya and dengue are on the rise in Ghaziabad. The number of patients who reported at the government hospital has crossed 300.
On Friday, reports from the government laboratory said that out of 312 patients, 21 had tested positive for chikungunya and 10 for dengue. Two deaths have also been reported from the city.
Dr Sanjay Agarwal, chief medical officer of Ghaziabad, told City Spidey that 93 patients were tested for the two mosquito-borne diseases on Friday. He said that only serious or critical patients were being admitted at the government hospital and that the rest were being sent home after being given medicines.
According to residents of Ghaziabad, the government hospital is overcrowded with patients and arrangements to treat them are far from satisfactory. A resident of Vijay Nagar, who was at the hospital to visit a doctor, said, “I was in queue since morning, but even after waiting for hours, I could not meet the doctor."
Dev Shankar, a resident of Govindpuram, said that despite the number of patients having increased over the past few days, the number of doctors had not.
