Dwarka: Is your society organising Ravana dahan too?

Ravana dahan has become popular across Dwarka societies.

Several societies in sectors 10 and 11 have been burning effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakarna and Meghnad every year. The events are either organised inside the society premises or in vacant plots near them.

Advocate KS Bhati, president of Federation of RWAs (FORWAs) and Ganpati Apartments committee, says, “This year, we will be using the effigies as a symbol of terrorism. We have also planned a street play in which children will enact the war between Rama and Ravana before the dahan.”

Vice-president of Ganpati Apartments, Sector 9, Captain RP Sharma, says, “We have been organising this event for the past five years. Now it has become an integral part of our community celebrations during Dussehra. Several societies in Sector 9 have also been organising Ravana dahan on Vijaya Dashami for the past few years.”

Societies in sectors 3, 6, 7, 8, 13, 14 and 15 have also jumped on the Ravana dahan bandwagon this year. RWA of Radhika Apartments, Sector 14, will be organising the event at the vacant DDA plot in front of the society. President of the society, SS Chowhan, says, “We have already placed an order for the effigy. We have been organising this event for the past four years.”

Om Apartments, in Sector 14, will be celebrating Vijaya Dashami at the vacant plot adjacent to the society. President of the society, Rakesh Godara, says, “Ravana dahan is not only a symbol of banishing all evil but is also a means to bring people together. Residents from neighbouring societies in sectors 13 and 14 will be attending the celebrations. This is an integral part of community-building.”
