Chintels Paradiso- 1 dead, others trapped as roof collapses

A portion of the roof of the sixth floor of D tower of Chintels Paradiso housing complex in Gurugram's Sector 109 collapsed on Thursday evening, February 10, 2022. One woman has been reported dead. Another man is grievously injured and several people are feared trapped after the incident. rescue operations are still underway.

As reported by residents, the drawing-room area of the sixth to the first floor came down. Four families among the six were present inside their homes while the roof crashed.

"The living room in an apartment of the 18-floor Chintels Paradiso housing complex first came down, triggering the collapse of roofs and floors directly under it," news agency PTI reported.

The housing complex management blamed the disaster on "negligence" during repairs for the "extremely unfortunate incident", which took place around 7 pm, PTI reported.

Residents of the society have blamed the builder for the poor quality of construction and claimed that their complaints went unheard, reports said. Residents said Tower D, part of which collapsed, was built in 2018. The complex has three other towers. The 18-floor Tower D has four-bedroom apartments.

Gurugram police have started an investigation into the case by registering a complaint under Sections 304a and 34 against Managing Director, Chintel Ashok Solaman and the contractor of construction.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar tweeted he is personally monitoring the situation.

He tweeted, “Administrative officials, along with SDRF and NDRF teams are busy in the rescue & relief work after the unfortunate collapse of the apartment roof at the Paradiso Housing Complex in Gurugram. I am personally monitoring the situation and I pray for everyone's safety.”
