Dwarka Sector 9: Spot the footpath! The vacant plot and the footpath near Royal Residency Apartments

Open dumping of garbage in Dwarka's Sector 9 has become commonplace these days. Vacant plots, service lanes and even footpaths are seen littered with garbage, causing the area to stink.

"It is impossible to use the footpath," said Lt Gen (Retd) AC Soneja, a resident of Royal Residency Apartments. "The entire stretch from our society to Bhrigu Apartments is being used for dumping garbage. Everything from organic waste to construction debris is being dumped here. Right now, the footpath is not even visible, thanks to piles of waste and overgrown bushes in the area. The area was cleaned up with the help of the authorities, but the situation has gone back to what it was. We need a permanent solution to the problem."

The vacant plot lying between Royal Residency and Bhrigu Apartments is also being used as a dumpyard. The societies worst affected by the stench are Sri Radha Apartments, Royal Residency and Ganpati Apartments.

"We have brought the issue to the notice of the authorities," said Advocate KS Bhati, president of Ganpati Apartments managing committee. "They need to act immediately."

"We will be cleaning up the area at the earliest," said Praveen Rana, area councillor. "I will follow up with DDA. We have instructed corporation officials to prevent furthur dumping till then."
