Delhi rain and thunderstorm lead to traffic jams and disrupted flight operations

Delhi: On the morning of May 23, 2022, Delhi woke up to a thunderstorm and heavy rain. Although the morning rain provided a much-needed respite from an unprecedented and unrelenting heatwave that was hitting Delhi, it also led to waterlogged roads and traffic jams. Fallen trees were also a regular sight across several areas of the capital.

As per the Indian Meteorically Department (IMD), this was the first moderate intensity storm of this season. Early morning today, from around 5:40 am to 7 am, the temperature of the national capital fell by 11 degrees Celsius, going from 29 degrees to 18 degrees Celsius, as per the IMD report.

Airport authorities also tweeted about the problem of disrupted flight operations and asked passengers to confirm their flight timings to avoid chaos. Many airline companies such as Indigo and Air India tweeted and informed the passengers about the delay in the arrival and departure of the flight due to the bad weather.

According to IMD, there are predictions that rain and thunderstorms with moderate intensity and cool breeze with speeds of 60-90 Km/h would continue to occur over and adjoining areas of entire Delhi and NCR during the next two hours.
