Delhi: In the ever bustling and busy market of Chota Bazar, Shahdara, you can find an authentic serving of dry fruit Rabri malai from Hathras. Kamlesh, the man who sells the rabri malai, started his stall in 2007 and it’s been almost 15 years now that he’s serving this amazingly scrumptious treat.

Every night at 11 p.m., Kamlesh finishes preparing his Rabri Malai stock at his home in Gulab Vatika, near Loni Road. He then wakes up at around 6 a.m. to put a finishing touch on the Rabri malai and sets his stall in the market at around 10:30 am till 8:00 pm.

The best part about visiting his stall is that the taste of his rabri malai is just as sweet as his personality. With a smile on his face, he tells us that his wife helps him in the preparation of rabri malai.

Kamlesh originally hails from Madhya Pradesh, however, he’s been in Delhi for as long as he can remember. By serving this sweet treat of Rabri malai, he looks after his entire family which consists of his wife and children.

Talking about the pandemic, he tells us that the pandemic destroyed many street vendors' businesses. Kamlesh says, "This is the only way we can make money, and when the government announced the first lockdown, I felt hopeless and worried. We didn't know how long we'd have to wait and we didn't have any money at the time. We went through a lot of hard times as a family.” However, he feels happy as things are getting back to normal.

If you wish to taste his Rabri Malai, take the red line metro to Shahdara station, get to the Chota Bazar lane and ask anyone about him, you’ll find your way to him.
