Noida: Residents furious over waterlogging of roads every time it rains

Noida: On August 3, 2022, Noida witnessed mild rain, however, those slight showers were enough to waterlog the roads of Noida. The residents and commuters from several sectors of Noida say that roads get waterlogged almost every time it rains. The residents say that the stormwater drains in Noida are blocked with garbage and plastic which causes waterlogging.

Sanjeev Kumar, RWA General Secretary, Sector 51 says, "The school-going children have to pass through the waterlogged roads to reach to their buses. The water is dirty and poses risk to the children and others. We have often complained to the authorities about this issue. We believe that the contractors who don't get the drains cleaned timely should be penalized."

The RWA of Sector 51 tells us that they have been requesting the Health Department of the Authority to get the drains of the sector cleaned. However, to date, 60 percent of the drains in the area are blocked, eventually leading to water logging in the monsoon.

Rajeev Sharma, President of RWA Rajat Vihar C-Block Sector-62 Noida, says, "The drains are adjacent to the main entry gate of our society and the backside of the neighborhood. Somehow, the drain water makes its way to the green belt and the whole green belt area is now submerged in foul smelling dirty drain water. We are compelled to live in such poor conditions, and there is no one to listen."

Residents of Sector 53 in Noida are also furious over the same issue. They allege that they are have complained about the water logging to authority several time but nothing has been done so far. According to a resident, more than half of the B-block and the entire road of C-Block of Sector 53 are submerged, and the water level in front of the homes of the residents reaches one foot.
