Under the Harit Mitra Samman, the corporation's 12 zones, 56 colonies, and group housing societies have been approved as zero waste colonies. MCD would also reduce the property tax by an additional 5% for these societies.

The honour is being awarded by Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena to Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and group housing societies for efforts in solid waste management and composting at the Corporation Headquarters Civic Center. Thus, reducing carbon footprint.

Munish Kundra, Secretary, Brahma Apartments says, "We feel happy that our efforts are being recognised. This is a good initiative from MCD to recognise the people who are actively working on Solid waste management, composting, and working towards environmental initiatives. The responsibility of waste management lies with the waste generators. Each household should segregate their waste."
