Noida: In a unique initiative to provide safety to the cyclists of Noida and Greater Noida, the GB Nagar Police officers and personnel will ride alongside the cyclists. For this purpose, a special cycling squad of Noida Police will also be formed and pressed into service. This decision was taken in a meeting held with the DCP and ACP of the Noida Zone on September 15, 2022. Several issues such as inadequate infrastructure for cyclists, lack of proper lighting on streets, and lack of police patrolling in several areas were discussed in the meeting.

The meeting was conducted following two recent cases of reported misbehaviour with two cyclists in Noida. On September 13, 2022, a case of misconduct with a woman rider near Spectrum Mall, Sector 50, came to light. According to reports, an unknown man riding on a scooter tried to harass the lady and when the lady resisted, he pushed her on the road causing injuries to her. On the same day, two men on a motorcycle tried to snatch the pouch of a male rider, Ajay Khanijau, who was riding from  Mayur Vihar to the Sector-18 area. Because of the mayhem, the rider fell on the road which caused serious injuries to his collar bone, following which, he was admitted to Jaypee Hospital, Noida.

After the discussion about both cases in the meeting, DCP Harish Chandra stated that patrolling will be increased based on the list of deserted places given by the cyclists. Along with this, a WhatsApp group comprising the admins of various bicycle groups in Noida-Greater Noida will be set up, to which officers from various zones will be added, and whose numbers would then be disseminated as helpline numbers.

DCP Harish Chandra also informed that as per the instructions of the Noida Police Commissioner, a cycling squad of Noida Police will also be formed and pressed into service soon. A DCP rank officer will be in charge of the cycling squad. DCP, ACP, Inspector, Sub Inspector, and constables who are interested in cycling will be appointed to this squad. The Noida Police cycling squad will ride alongside various cycling groups. A day prior to the ride, the cycling groups will have to post details about it on the WhatsApp group.

Manish Kumar, a rider from Greater Noida West, says, "We are hopeful that whatever we discussed in the meeting will be implemented soon on the ground and will boost the morale of the riders."

In the meeting, the cyclist community was represented by the victim of the incident, Kritika Kaur along with Manish Kumar (NEFOWA) and Bhavna Gaur (SWAG) from Greno West, Rajeev Singh (NOFAA), Nisha Rai (NOFAA), Tarun Wadhwa (Dare to Gear) from Noida and Renu Malhotra along with others from Greater Noida Cycling group.
