RWA sector-51 complains of continued infringement of green belts by Authority

Green belts are a natural space for residents in an otherwise concrete jungle. However, residents allege that green belts in Noida have been infringed with, in various past decisions taken by the Authority in the name of 'development'. Recently, Noida Authority has decided to construct dog shelters in green belts of sector 51, the decision has bothered residents and RWA in the area.

The RWA and residents of sector 51 are against the construction of dog shelters for stray dogs on the green belt of the sectors. For this, RWA has written a letter to CEO Ritu Maheshwari, demanding the cancellation of this plan of the Authority. The RWA urges the Noida Authority to find a different location for the dog shelters so that green belts are not destroyed.

Members of RWAs of Sector-51 complained that the purpose of green belts has already been defeated by the installation of telephone towers by the Noida Authority. Additionally, they allege that the Water department of the Noida Authority has constructed pump houses in the majority of the green spaces and parks in the sectors. As per them, such decisions taken by authorities do not benefit the residents and were taken without consulting with them.

Sanjeev Kumar, General Secretary of RWA sector-51, says, "Authority is charging Preferential Location Charges (PLC) from residents at the time of allotment for the green belts and parks. But even after this, without taking NOC from the residents, pump houses and telephone towers have been installed in the green belts. This is against the NGT guidelines. Now, they intend to erect dog shelters which we are vehemently against."

According to the residents of the society, a large part of the Children's Park in sector 51 was given to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to build a station. Further, a large area of Children's Park is now being given to a private furniture company.

We are trying to reach out to the Noida Authority. We will update the story when we get their comments.
