Will Gurgaon ever learn!

Despite the city being one of the worst hit by the smog last month, MCG workers continue to burn garbage instead of dumping the waste at designated spots, causing irreparable harm to the environment.

Will Gurgaon ever learn!

Gurgaon, it seems, refuses to learn from its mistakes. The city was left chocking in the smog just the last month, and yet, people willingly continue to burn garbage, in open violation of the orders by the National Green Tribunal and the Supreme Court.

The MCG, too, has failed to effectively put brakes on the practice, despite the administration imposing a fine on the burning of garbage in the city.

Residents allege that garbage collectors and sweepers often burn garbage on the spot, instead of dumping the waste at designated sites.

Residents also demanded strict action against those responsible for such acts of callousness. Ajay Kumar, a resident of Sushant Lok, said, "Government should take strong action against people who burn the garbage and pollute the environment. Right now, the corporation is just a mute spectator. Officials are encouraging the violators by not taking action against them."

Neelam Mehta, a resident of Ardee City, felt the same. "What do they think they are doing! Despite the city witnessing the worst smog ever, we continue to behave so thoughtlessly. The government should take stringent action against the violators," she snapped.

One of the sweepers, however, blamed the residents. He told City Spidey that instead of dumping the garbage, residents themselves are burning it. The MCG has installed green dustbins on the roads, but they are not being used. To make matters worse, burning garbage is often dumped in the bins, damaging them badly.
