6th UITP India Urban Rail Seminar, 2023 held at Metro Bhawan, New Delhi

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) hosted the 6th UITP India Urban Rail Seminar 2023 at Metro Bhawan, New Delhi today. The seminar was attended by senior officials of Urban Rail companies of India and abroad and representatives from the industry, and experts in urban development.

The inaugural session of seminar was addressed by Jaya Verma Sinha, Member Operations & Business Development, Railway Board, Ashish Kundra, Principal Secretary cum Commissioner of Transport, Govt. of NCT of Delhi, Vikas Kumar, Managing Director, DMRC and Shaun Tan, Head, UITP Asia Pacific.

Jaya Varma Sinha appreciated UITP and DMRC for organizing the seminar. She said “Railway systems are the most efficient public transport systems in terms of carrying capacity, space utilization and energy consumption”.  She also emphasized for integration of different urban mass transit systems to provide effective mobility services.

In his address,  Ashish Kundra said “An effective urban transport system like Rail, Metro and other alternatives are essential for cities”.  He also highlighted the importance of integration of other modes of public transport to improve last mile connectivity services.

Speaking at the seminar, Vikas Kumar said “Today, we operate one of the most advanced as well as one of the most punctual Metro networks in the world. The Delhi Metro is the lifeline of the National Capital Region where it has helped ushers in a new era of rapid economic growth, enhanced living and traveling comfort, and avenues for the generation of employment."  He also pointed out that there is ample scope for improvement in energy conservation. Highlighting DMRC’s initiatives, he also urged the metro systems to adopt innovative methods to reduce energy consumption

The seminar was meant to provide a platform for stakeholders of public transport across the country to exchange ideas and share their knowledge in order to enhance efficiency of the public transport industry, especially the Urban Rail networks in various cities.
