If East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) is to be believed, open-air gyms in parks located in residential colonies may soon be a reality. An official from EDMC's horticulture department told City Spidey that the corporation had started floating tenders for the project.

"The entire project will be executed in two phases," said the official. "For the first phase, 30 large parks have been identified from residential colonies across East Delhi. The estimated cost for the project per park is Rs 5 lakh. Half of the sum will come from the municipal councillor’s area development fund, and the rest from the Member of Parliament fund. The budget for the second phase is yet to be finalised."

S C Bhatia, a resident of Paryatan Apartment in Vasundhara Enclave, said, “What can be better than it if parks are facilitated with open gym? It is a great idea and we will cooperate if MCD approaches us for any help.”

P K Vasudeva, president of Una Enclave, said, “Our demand of two years has finally been met. But I hope I'm not speaking too soon, since it's just in its tendering phase. Three parks in Mayur Vihar Phase I have been equipped with open gyms already."
