Members of Cambridge School Parents Association (CSPA), a group of parents whose wards are students of Cambridge School in Sector 27, Noida, met NP Singh, district magistrate of Gautam Budh Nagar, on March 31 and gave a letter of complaint against the arbitrary fee hike by the school.

The letter said that private schools of Noida were not permitted to increase tuition fee within three years of a hike. Moreover, the hike should not exceed 10 per cent.

However, Cambridge School had increased its quarterly fee from Rs 20,000 to Rs 35,000, which was a 75 per cent hike, without any prior notice to parents.

“All of us come from similar backgrounds and cannot afford to give away a major chunk of our salaries to schools,” said K Arunchalam, general secretary of CSPA. “Schools used to be for education, but now they seem to have been reduced to money-making businesses.”

The district magistrate assured all members that he would look into the matter and would hold a meeting with representatives of all Noida schools to discuss the exorbitant fee hikes.
