Residents of Block E, Palam Vihar, Gurgaon, have decided to hold a protest against water shortage at the deputy commissioner’s office on April 10.

They say that they have been grappling with the problem of reduced water pressure for the last three months. The situation is such that residents are struggling to fulfill their basic daily needs. While residents on ground floors do get some water, for those living on upper floors, the situation is worrisome. In the absence of suction pumps, water fails to reach these floors due to low pressure.

Radhika Sharma, a resident, told City Spidey, “We have to call water tankers daily and they charge anything between Rs 900 to Rs 1,000. No one is listening to our problems and now, we’ve had enough. Even after paying maintenance charges, we don’t get basic facilities!”

Col (Retd) RL Mann, another resident, said, “We don’t get water supply for the designated time of two hours in the mornings and evenings. The supply is only for an hour and water pressure is really low, which results in less quantity being supplied. There are days when the quality of the water is also questionable.”

According to a Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) official, the water shortage is due to work on the master pipeline that began early this year. “We are aware of the problem. The areas under Sector 16 boosting station have been facing issues. The water supply will soon be restored,” said the HUDA official.
