Rs 45,000 to Rs 55,000! Parents protest again against Amity Intl fee hike

Parents of those studying in Amity International School in Sector 1, Vasundhara, conducted their second protest against arbitrary school fee hikes and financial coercion, on April 12.

Parents said coercion was conducted in the form of various unexplained charges such as development charges.

Speaking to City Spidey, Piyush Gautam, a parent whose ward studies in the school, said the fee for one student, which was about Rs 45,000 last year, was suddenly increased to Rs 55,000 this year, putting undue pressure on parents. "Moreover, they have several other costs, such as development charges, which they charge from students instead of bearing themselves," Gautam added.

Piyush Jindal, another parent who was present at the protest, said he was paying Rs 92,000 for both his kids till now, but the school had increased it to Rs 1,26,000 without any explanation. "We had even met the school management about the issue, but they told us to take it up with the school's higher management," he added.

The school's only response has been to defer the fee-submission date from April 15 to April 30. "They have not rolled back or even decreased the amount," said Jindal. "We have made it clear to the school authorities that we will not pay the hiked fees. They are just deferring dates to water down the protest."

The parents had also held a similar protest last week, following which the school had held a meeting with the parents.

Despite several attempts by City Spidey to get an official comment from the Amity school management, the authorities did not respond.
