Gurgaon braces for a water crisis

Gurgaon residents will face a water crisis for the next couple of days as the construction of flyovers on NH 8 at Iffco Chowk, Rajiv Chowk and Hero Honda Chowk will require the pipeline to be shifted.

Areas affected will include HUDA sectors 45-47, 51-53, 55-57 and 58-67, and some parts of DLF and Sushant Lok.

According to HUDA and MCG officials, water supply will remain erratic for two or three days, and things will become normal only after the pipeline has been shifted. Furthermore, water will not be released from Chandu Bhudera plant and the Basai plant on April 24.

MCG has appealed to residents to store as much water as possible. “Residents should use water minimally. The shifting of a pipeline takes time, and we are trying to work things out as quickly as possible,” said SS Rohilla, MCG public relations officer.

Residents are already planning ways to curtail the use of water.

Ankita Sharma, a resident of Sector 14, said, “We’ll not do laundry for a couple of days, and not get our cars washed.”

Another resident, Devika Bhattacharya, from New Colony, added, “We’ll do whatever we can to use less water — washing driveways, watering our gardens and laundry can certainly be avoided for a couple of days.”
