Delhi Public School Ghaziabad (DPSG) has left students’ parents agitated - not only because of the way it has handled matters related to the fee hike, but also because of the lack of clarity around its recognition status by the education department. While school authorities have decided to keep the establishment closed till the recognition process is over, parents are voicing their protest quite vehemently.
Just recently, school authorities had to call for police intervention, with almost 200 parents protesting outside the school against the fee hike. They say the school has raised fees by a whopping 70 per cent, as against the permitted annual 10 per cent hike.
Speaking to City Spidey, senior administrator Sudhir Chitnis said, “We have raised the fees in accordance with existing rules and will not roll them back. The parents broke into the school, which was wrong on their part. We will resume school once the recognition process is complete.”
Apart from the fee hike, the issue of recognition has left parents feeling cheated. They allege that the school had not given them the correct details when they were getting their wards admitted.
“The school was earlier called Chiranjiv Bharati School, or CBS, and when my ward took admission, I was told it was recognised by the education department. Now I am shocked to hear that when DPSG took over, it did not have recognition,” said Yashdesh Yadav, a resident of Mahindra Aura, in Sector 110 A, Gurgaon.
Adding to this, Pradeep Vats, resident of Sector 22, said, “DPSG cheated us and is now playing with the future of our children.”
