Raahgiri Day is set to be relaunched on May 21 as a joint initiative of Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) and the Raahgiri foundation.

From 5 am to 9 am, Sushant Lok Road near Galleria block in Sector 27 will witness various activities such as cycling, acrobatics, yoga, photography, taekwondo, skating, bhangra, zumba, tent pitching and hiking workshop, golf putting challenge, archery and badminton.

As Raahagiri Day had been an unprecedented success earlier, the organisers decided to re-launch it. According to the organisers, in view of the increasing number of road accidents over the years, the initiative aims to encourage residents to take up a healthier lifestyle.

One day in a week will be dedicated to the cause, when people can come on the roads and reclaim it. The day will also spread awareness about using cycles to commute to work and reduce carbon footprint.

The organisers claim that as air pollution in the city continues to be a major concern for authorities, the day will be celebrated to address this issue as well.

This initiative is similar to Cyclovia, another initiative that first began in Bogota, Colombia. Residents of Bogota have sustained Cyclovia for the past 20 years and continue to do so.
