The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) announced on May 25 that it would reward Rs 5 lakh for developmental activities to those Resident Welfare Associations (RWA) whose residents would have paid above 80 per cent of their property tax dues by May 31. The announcement came a day after MCG announced Rs 50,000 for the cleanest RWA.

V Umashankar, MCG commissioner, said, “RWAs that have participated proactively in ensuring that almost 80 per cent of the residents in the area have deposited their property tax deserve to be rewarded.”

MCG officials claim that RWA’s of sectors 4, 7, 14, and 47, and Shivpuri, Jalvayu Vihar, Maruti Vihar , Shivaji Nagar and Mayfield Garden are eligible for the cash reward as 80 per cent of their residents have cleared the property tax.

The amount will be used extensively on the development activities like park beautification, increasing and maintaining green belts, and upgrading community centres.

VMK Singh, general secretary Suncity RWA, said, “We are close to the target as we had conducted a property tax collection camp in the premises.” Similarly, the RWA of Qutub Enclave, DLF Phase I, conducted a camp on May 25 to meet the 80-per cent target.

Most RWAs maintain that holding camps for the purpose helps in the collection of property tax.
