AVJ Heights: Drunk security guard arrested for allegedly trying to molest woman

A drunk security guard of AVJ Heights in Sector Zeta 1, Greater Noida, was arrested after he allegedly broke into the flat of a young engineering student staying alone and tried to molest and rape her, late on Friday night. This is the second such incident this week that has raised questions about women's safety in Uttar Pradesh.

The guard has been identified as Raj Kumar (26), a resident of Hathras. Kumar allegedly barged into her flat on the 11th floor but ran away soon after she raised an alarm.

The accused went into hiding after the incident and locals gathered there. A PCR call was made at about 10.30 pm. The police picked up his brother, who also works as a security guard in the same society.

“We had posted people across the society, to ensure he could not get away," said Maneesh Saxena, SHO, Surajpur. "The locals were helped in looking for him. It took two hours to find him. He was found hiding in the bathroom of a vacant flat. He was arrested.”

According to the police, Kumar admitted he was drunk, saying he inadvertently went to that flat and found the doors open.

“We have filed an FIR under sections 457 [Lurking house-trespass or house-breaking by night] and 376 [punishment for rape] of the IPC,” added Saxena.

According to the police, the high-rise has some vacant flats, which have been occupied by the security guards.

Earlier this week, a 35-year-old woman was gang-raped in a moving car. The woman was later dumped in Kasna area of Greater Noida . Despite, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, first and foremost concern being ‘to protect the honour of women’. These incidents show some strict measures are needed to ensure women safety.
