Indirapuram’s Green Team, comprised of Ahinsa Khand 2 residents, is gearing up for GDA’s mega plantation drive on July 9. The members of the team have been visiting societies and local businesses to garner support for the event.
Green Team has also been roping in members of residential circles and AOAs for the drive. Moreover, societies have been abuzz with meetings to decide on the agenda for the drive. While some AOA members have offered to help out with their own maintenance staff, others have decided to go an extra mile and supply manure from their society’s stock as additional support.
A meeting to prepare for the green drive was held today at Ashiana Upvan, a society in Ahinsa Khand 2. Anil Sharma, president of the society’s AOA, told City Spidey that members had prepared a schedule for the July 9 drive.
“Ahinsa Khand 2 has turned into a concrete jungle and our first step will be to plant saplings in various locations in the area,” Sharma said. “This will be followed by cleanliness drives in the neighbourhood. We have earmarked spots for these drives.”
Speaking to City Spidey, Jayati Jain, one of the founding members of Green Team, said with the monsoons already here, it was the perfect time for a tree-planting drive. “We want to make it a grand affair, as GDA is providing plants and tree guards for free. The digging pits are almost ready, manpower has been taken care of by society staff and residents, and we are now arranging for manure. We have identified 200 spots in which to plant trees and another 300 for shrubs and decorative plants, which will mainly be the central verges of roads,” Jain added.
The drive is slated to begin around 8 am on July 9.
