Will this be a thing of the past at Hero Honda Chowk?

With the opening up of a key flyover at Hero Honda Chowk this week, NHAI assures smooth traffic at this key junction, never mind heavy rains.

Will this be a thing of the past at Hero Honda Chowk?

To avoid a re-run of July-28 traffic impasse on Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) opened up a key flyover at Hero Honda Chowk this week.

The hope is waterlogging will no longer lead to a traffic gridlock.

The NHAI also confirmed that infrastructure projects at Signature Tower, Rajiv Chowk and Iffco Chowk are almost halfway through, and once they are complete, traffic snarls will become less frequent.

This year, to meet monsoon exigencies, the NHAI and its contractors have manpower posted at key intersections with water pumps and other necessary equipment.

Apart from the Hero Honda flyover, two more projects — an underpass connecting Medanta Hospital road with Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway and the Maharana Pratap flyover — are likely to ease vehicular movement on the expressway.

“Heavy rains will not lead to traffic hold-ups at the chowk this year. The work on the underpass is also reaching its final stages — and is expected to be over by December 31,” assured Ashok Sharma, project director, NHAI.

Manoj Kumar, chief general manager, NHAI, added, “Several other projects are also on the anvil to decongest Gurgaon and the NCR.”

There are other developments as well.

A new 16-lane Golf Course Road is now connected to the expressway. Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) and NHAI are jointly working on building an elevated U-turn at Sirhaul toll plaza opposite Ambience Mall — these works are likely to end the daily jams at Shanker Chowk and Udyog Vihar.

For monsoon emergencies, highway operators Millennium City Expressways Pvt Ltd (MCEPL) and Skylark have set up heavy-duty pumps at Khandsa (between Khandsa and Narsinghpur), two at Ricco factory, two at Bestech Corporate Park, and another one at Anaj Mandi.

“All drains along the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway have been cleaned up. Twelve teams, comprising six men each, have been deployed. We also have mobile tankers ready to transport excess water,” confirmed Navneet Pratap Singh, CEO of Skylark.

“We are working closely with the district administration, the police and other agencies. There shouldn’t be any waterlogging jams at Hero Honda Chowk this year,” assured S Raghuraman, CEO, MCEPL.
