Residents of high-rises in Sectors 74, 76, 77 and 78 complained of heavy waterlogging and blamed clogged drains for the crisis. Noida Authority, however, had a different story to tell.
Owing to heavy rains in the morning, residents of high-rises in Sectors 74, 76, 77 and 78 of Noida had to brave waterlogging both within and outside the society.
Most basements remained waterlogged.
Here’s what the residents had to say.
Bhupendra Routela, a resident of Supertech Capetown, Sector 74, complained, “The basement is waterlogged — this always happens during the monsoon. But the developer has done nothing to solve the problem. We had a lot of trouble just reaching our cars.”
Dhanajay Kumar of Grand Ajnara Heritage in Sector 74 said, “The drain near the gate is choked — it is the perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes. Every year, during monsoons, our society reports several cases of dengue and chikungunya. But who cares!”
Kumar Alok Shroff, a resident of Sunshine Helios, Sector 78, said, “The internal roads are completely waterlogged, and it’s really difficult to negotiate the stretch from Mahagun Mezzaria to Antriksh Golf.”
Residents of these new sectors said Noida Authority had zero preparedness to deal with the rains. It hadn’t cleaned the clogged drains ahead of the monsoon, they added.
When City Spidey contacted RS Yadav, project engineer of Noida Authority, he said, “The new sectors are not connected to any big drain — that's why the water is not flowing out. We do clean the drains of these sectors pretty regularly.”
