Gurgaon: Another construction-linked pipeline rupture!

A pipeline located in a vacant plot between the district court and the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway was reported ruptured today owing to underpass construction at Rajiv Chowk.

But thankfully, the burst did not affect the traffic movement, and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials were able to fix the damage within an hour.

HUDA officials confirmed that water supply to sectors 32, 39, 46 and 47 will remain unaffected.

Pipeline ruptures are being reported quite frequently because of construction work on the expressway.

In March, HUDA had issued a warning to the contractor hired by NHAI that any further damage to their master pipeline at IFFCO Chowk would lead to a police complaint. The pipeline had burst twice near Sector 17.

On April 24, a section of road had caved in at the Hero Honda Chowk after the pipeline located below the junction developed ruptures.

On April 6, a construction company damaged a Unitech water line near Signature Tower, affecting supply to South City I.

Though NHAI is widening the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway for greater public good and some amount of damage can perhaps be expected, but such frequent ruptures bring construction methods into question.

Ashok Kumar Sharma, NHAI project director, could not be reached for comment.
