The Additional Director General has launched the Garun and Shakti bike squads comprising of 60 men and 40 women.

Today, Anand Kumar, Additional Director General (ADG) of UP in charge of law and order, has launched two bike squads, Garun and Shakti. These squads shall patrol the twin cities of Gautam Budh Nagar.

The launch happened at Indira Gandhi Kala Kendra in Noida Sector 6. Ram Kumar, Additional Director General of Police; BN Singh, IG Meerut; Luv Kumar, District Magistrate of GB Nagar and the SSP of the District were present on the occasion.

The bike squads were given 50 vehicles from Hero Motor Corporation Limited, as part of the corporate major’s CSR initiative.

About 30 Hero Achiever bikes were given to the Garun Squad. This male squad shall control traffic and encroachment on the roads. On the other, hand 20 Duet VX scooters were given to the female squad who shall be in charge of women’s safety in the twin cities. Both the squads have also been given safety gears and helmets.

The vehicles come with light publicatory systems and sirens- features that essentially help in patrolling. Some members of these squads have also been given sophisticated ‘body wear camera’. More body wear cameras shall be given in the course of time.

In the Garun Squad, 25 bikes have been assigned to Noida and five bikes have been assigned to Greater Noida. In the Shakti Squad, 15 bikes have been assigned to Noida and five bikes have been assigned to Greater Noida.

Luv Kumar, District Magistrate of GB Nagar stated that the Garun Squad shall primarily control traffic. “The members of this squad are aware about traffic rules. They will also take feedback from the people about managing traffic,” Kumar said.“One officer of SCP rank, shall accompany the bikers in the Garun Squad. He shall issue challans to people who break the traffic rules,” he added.

Talking about the Shakti Squad, Kumar says, “In a bid to improve security for women this squad shall patrol outside schools, colleges, shopping malls and other busy areas in the twin cities of Noida and Greater Noida. This is a first-of-its-kind police squad, comprising of 40 women police personnel who will patrol on 20 scooters.”

In the course of the event, the district police also felicitated seven traffic volunteers, which  included Wing Commander, Mukund Chand Joshi, Sanjeev Trihaan, Dr Krishna Yadav, Vinod Bhadana, Sandeep Bansal, Sneha Makhijani and Navod Singh.
