Noida & Ghaziabad

Odd-even push for CNG: With the second phase of the odd-even rule in Delhi just seven days away, there is a rush in Noida and Ghaziabad for conversion of petrol and diesel vehicles into CNG ones. Owners are making beelines at the transport departments to get CNG kits fixed in vehicles. The transport departments of both the cities reported two fold jump in requests for CNG upgradation.

Traffic diversion: Attention commuters! The road from Mamura Chowk, Sector 62, to Sector 60 will be closed for traffic for three days – Friday to Sunday – on account of construction work underway on an underpass. The restriction will come into effect at 5 am on Friday and will remain till 5 pm on Sunday. Vehicles coming from Sector 62 would be diverted to Sector 64.

Greater Noida

Liquor shop salesman shot: Robbers gunned down a 58-year-old liquor shop salesman in Tilpta village. The incident took place at 9 pm on Thursday when three men on a bike arrived at a liquor shop to rob it. They shot Jitender Nagar dead before decamping with Rs 70,000 cash.

Gurgaon

Trigger happy youths target showroom: Five youths opened fire from a white Swift at a tyre showroom at Sohna-Palwal road near Ambedkar Chowk on Wednesday night. They had an altercation with the owner of the showroom and his brother, over a trivial issue, before resorting to firing. While two of them were nabbed by police as their car hit a tree, other three could be able to make good their escape. Shyam Sunder, the owner, alleged that the culprits tried to kidnap him.  

School busses run on tourist permit: As per rules, state permit is required for vehicles ferrying students in Gurgaon. But Shiv Nadar School of DLF-1, runs 11 of its 12 buses on tourist permit obtained from regional transport offices in Delhi. Only one bus of the leading private school is registered under state permit.

A step forward towards traffic decongestion: It is the first step towards easing traffic congestion on Sohna Road and Huda City Centre crossings. The special task force mandated to oversee development activity in the city has cleared a proposal to appoint consultants. The consultants would be assigned with the task of conducting a feasibility study on construction of flyovers or underpasses.

Cash stolen from donation box: Around Rs 1.5 lakh was stolen from the donation box of the Sohna gurdwara. A CCTV camera installed in the gurdwara caught the culprits in the act. The CCTV footage is being studied by police to identify the thieves who entered the shrine in the wee hours of Thursday.
