In Noida, traffic outside school gates need urgent attention

RWAs have attributed the worsening traffic situation in their sectors to badly driven and parked school buses. Noida traffic cops and school managements will have a meeting in October to discuss solutions

In Noida, the traffic situation is particularly chaotic in sectors that have schools. Taking cognisance, the Noida traffic police shall conduct a meeting with the managements of schools in the city.

Anil Jha, SP Traffic informed City Spidey that the meeting will happen in October, whereby school managements shall be told to improve their school bus parking rules. “These buses are the main culprits as far as traffic congestion is concerned,” Jha said.

RWA members of the city say that the traffic woes for commuters peak in the morning and afternoon hours, which are essentially the standard timings for schools to open and close. The school buses and cars of parents parked outside school gates choke both the driving and pedestrian space.

The RWAs are not alone in their complaint. Residents have also endorsed their views.

“School drivers park their buses on both sides of the road which reduces its width. Private van drivers are equally callous,” said Rajeev Garg, Secretary of RWA in Sector 27. Garg is alluding to Cambridge School.

“Chances of accidents are high when after school hours, students line up on the roads to board the haphazardly parked school bus. Therefore we want Cambridge School to park their bus inside the school premises,” Garg stated.

Vatsala Parashar, RWA President of Sector 39 said that drivers who drive the buses of Ryan International School often park in front of her house. Due to the presence of this school, almost 40 school buses and 20 private vans regularly ply in the interior roads of the sector. “The drivers also loiter in the parks and other places of our sector, which become a safety concern. We had written a letter to the school but they did not pay attention to our concerns,” Parashar added.
