Geeta Ghat, Geeta Colony Ghat and Mayur Vihar-DND Ghat - that's where you need to immerse Durga idols if your puja committee happens to be in East Delhi.

If you don't want this to happen, better heed Delhi govt's advise

Delhi Government has issued an appeal to all the Durga Puja organising committees to immerse the idols of the deity only in the places that have been earmarked by the environment department. There are about ten locations across the city that have been specified for immersion.

For instance, in East Delhi, there are three locations earmarked for immersion: Geeta Ghat, Geeta Colony Ghat and Mayur Vihar-DND Ghat.

This decision has been taken to protect the Yamuna flood plain area from turning into a dumping site. This would also help civic bodies in collecting remains of Durga idols and clear the Yamuna flood plain area. Of course, such advise comes from experience. During Ganesh Chaturthi, East Delhi alone had collected about fifteen truckloads of waste.

The government has also asked puja committees to complete the immersion process before sundown. "That's for security reasons," said a release from the environmental department of Delhi Government.

The government has also requested the Delhi Police to deploy maximum police personnel in the ghats. This deployment would ensure the security of the devotees who shall be assembling at the ghats tomorrow for the immersion ritual. About five to six CCTV cameras shall be installed at each ghat to assist the police.
