Crisp fresh air is what you expect while walking in your neighbourhood parks. But this is exactly what evades you when you walk in the DDA Park of Sector 3 Dwarka because dust and pollution are at an unprecedented high here. Much of this can be attributed to the construction of a water pipe in the vicinity. The loose earth callously dumped on the road is constantly releasing dust particles in the air. To make matters worse, the passing vehicles are releasing toxic fumes.
An entire stretch of 100 metres (in front of the park) has become a hazardous zone. According to residents of Sector 3 the construction work has started about twenty days back and concerned authorities have done nothing to contain the pollution levels. SK Sharma, a senior citizen and regular visitor to the park commented, “This is an absolute negligence on the part of the agency involved in the work. They know the seriousness of pollution levels in the area but have still left unattended earth mounds everywhere.”
Residents of societies like Heritage Tower, Astha Kunj, Welcome Apartments etc are particularly affected. Children and senior citizens are the worst sufferers. Ramnit Kaur, a resident of Welcome Apartments said, “Due to the dry weather the condition has become more serious. The agency should take up the issue immediately.”
