Supertech Capetown: Child gets burn injuries, while others play blame game

On the evening of March 3, a function was in full swing in one of the clubs of Supertech Capetown in Sector 74, Noida. The caterer had set up a tandoor and a kadai with hot boiling water in the area where the kids played. Little did Dev Nandan know that his five-year-old son would accidentally fall into the kadai and receive burn injuries on his back.

The incident happened near Club No. 3 of the society.

Despite the accident, neither the organiser of the function nor the builder’s facilities management team step in to help — or own up to the accident that could have easily turned fatal.

Nandan lodged a complaint against the facilities team of the society at Sector 49 police station. In the complaint, he wrote the builder had given permission to the resident to set up a tandoor and a kadai in the area where kids played.

According to the complaint, the builder had given the permission to organiser to set-up the tandoor in kids play area due to which the child injured while playing in that area.

Nandan recalled, “No one came to my help — neither anybody from the builder’s side nor those who organised the function. We rushed him to Neo Hospital in Sector 50. My child has burn injuries in his back."

“Security is the responsibility of the facilities management team of the builder, but they failed us. We had to lodge a complaint,” he added.

When City Spidey spoke to Arun Singh Chauhan, a member of the management team, he said, “We only gave given permission for the club, and the club has a kitchen. But this resident did not inform us about the tandoor at all. Security guards also asked the orgainser to take the whole thing inside the kitchen, but the incident happened before any action could be taken.”

Surprisingly, Satender Bhalla, who had organised the function, denied the management’s claims and said he had permission from them to set up the tandoor there. “I am not responsible for the incident!” he stressed.

"No one is ready to own up. It was actually the administration’s fault — it should not have allowed the resident to set up such things in that area. The owner, too, should have appointed someone to keep a check on the goings-on," said the father.

The police has received the complaint, and is investigating the matter.
